Janet Ferguson COTT Blog Tour

Guest post By Janet W. Ferguson

I love the beach. It’s like God opens a treasure chest and sprinkles jewels around for us to discover. Shells, porpoise, heron, sand dollars, starfish, sunsets, the ocean breeze, sea turtles, glowing jellyfish, the stars and the waves as constant as His love, and so much more. After dark, I like to grab a flashlight and find little crabs at night. I promise I don't hurt them, but I might chase them a little. Good times.

I wanted to write something funny after writing Tackling the Fields, which was a painful book to write, and I have these nice friends, who started asking me to go with them on “girls’ beach trips” to Fort Morgan a few years ago. Bless them forever for that kindness. This story grew in my imagination while on one of these trips. On the Fort Morgan, Alabama, beach, I stood watching a while a storm blew in. I pictured a lonely and quirky romance writer, the queen of bad dates, running back to her little beach cottage. Yes, my brain works a little bit differently than most.

The perfect hero instantly came to mind for her. Sam Conrad. He appears in all three of the first stories of the Southern Hearts Series. He’s a bit jaded and snarky and tends to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Imagine the fireworks when they’re thrown together. Maybe even Blown Together by the weather.

And that’s how it all started. Did I mention that I love the beach? It’s my happy place!

When love storms in…

Wealth manager Sam Conrad is accustomed to his domineering father ordering him around, especially at the bank where they both work. But when his father demands that Sam manage the inheritance of his bossy ex-fiancée, Sam has finally had enough. He leaves in search of a new life, and attorney Big Roy Bosarge from Mobile, Alabama agrees to mentor Sam on his quest for direction. Sam didn’t expect to be thrown together with Big Roy’s eccentric and opinionated daughter.

Storm damage forces lonely romance writer Elinor Bosarge and her hairless cat, Mr. Darcy, out of her Fort Morgan Beach cottage. She plans to take refuge in the boathouse on her parents’ estate, but finds the place already occupied by one of her father’s “projects.” She’s shocked her father would allow another young man onto the property after his last mentee robbed her family and broke her heart. And from the moment she meets Sam Conrad, they disagree about everything from her cat to how to best renovate a local nursing home.

Between her mother’s health issues and the hurricane brewing in the Gulf, Elinor feels like her life is being ripped apart. It doesn’t help that she’s falling for the man she’s determined not to trust. Sam finds himself drawn to Elinor, wanting to help her and this new family he’s grown to love. But can he overcome the barrier she’s built to keep him out? When the storm rages and the two of them are blown together, can Elinor find the faith to open her heart again?

Her first official writing endeavor became The Bloodmark Saga, featuring a werewolf princess-turned-ruler who falls in love with a human boy. Nighttime Reading Center Interview, Author Interview
1 Describe your book in 20 words or less.
The Bloodmark Saga is a fantasy romance that combines Celtic mythology, werewolves and love.
2 Where or how did you come up with the idea for your story?
I had a dream of Ashling in a scene in the last book, Bloodmoon. I saw her, I heard her words, and I knew who she was at the end. I had to tell her story. So I began my research and character development to find out who she was and what she had to go through to get to that moment that I saw.
3 How important are names to you in your book(s)? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning? Do you use any resources in assisting you to choose the names ?
The names took a lot of time to find just the right ones to match the characters personalities and nationalities. The name meanings did play a part in their selection a lot of the time too. I use a lot of baby name books as part of my research, as well as mythology.
4 Which of your characters (in this book) is your favorite and Why?
That’s like picking a favorite child. It’s just not right. But if I were to pick one other than the main character Ashling, I would choose Baran Killian. He is an unexpected character that is strong and kind. He grows as a person and gives Ashling the freedom to make her own choices. In my mind when I wrote him I always saw actor Sam Elliot, the perfect rugged protector.
5 Was there a certain scene in this book that was harder for you to write than others?
In the third book there is a heart breaking scene that I attempted to write differently many times before I finally had to face the truth and watch a character die before my eyes. I cried so hard writing that scene.
6 If you could cast your characters in the Hollywood adaptation of your book, who would play your characters?
I don’t have an idea for the main characters, I assume they would be some amazing new talent, but a few of the others I have in my mind. I always saw Queen Nessa as Nicole Kidman, Baran Killian as Sam Elliot, Mother Rhea as Maggie Smith, and King Pørr Boru as Brendan Gleeson.
7 What was your favorite part to write and why?
I love writing scenes and creating the world in which the characters live. I am so intrigued by mixing real places with mythological places and making the scene so real it almost becomes a character itself.
8 Just as your book(s) inspire authors, what authors have inspired you to write?
I adore J.R.R. Tolkien, Jane Austen, AVI, and J.K. Rowling.
9 What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
Never stop writing, dreaming and being part of the worlds you create. Use beta readers that are your demographic and if one of five says something you can take it or leave it, but if three or more say it, you better listen. Take classes through your literary organizations, like loft.org. I teach there and love giving back.
10 Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?
I read the reviews sometimes, curiosity killed the cat they say. I have gotten bad reviews and that’s totally okay. I don’t respond. Everyone is entitled an opinion. I only get involved if someone attacks another reader on a social channel of mine. I don’t allow bullying in my world. As for advice, if you get a bad review, sit yourself down have yourself a nice cry while you eat icecream and then go for a walk and move on.
11 What are you working on now? What is your next project?
I just published Mama’s Knight: A Cancer Story of Love, a children’s book for moms with cancer. That is pretty exciting for me, you can check it out at themamavillage.com. I am also working on a new YA novel publishing in late 2017 and another children’s book.
12 Bonus Question: Characters often find themselves in situations they aren't sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?
I lost my mom to cancer three years ago and that broke my heart. No matter how dark, bad, serious or terrible the situation you still have to keep moving forward. Even if you have to crawl through the mud, just don’t stop there in the mud, keep going. I took my dark sadness and transformed it into a children’s book to help little ones through the tough and confusing times of having mom go through treatments. So I would say try to do good, volunteer, exercise and meditate. That is the only way I know to survive bad things that happen in life.

Thank you for stopping by Nighttime Reading Center, Aurora Whittet. I have come to enjoy your book about Ashing Boru. It sure got me wanting more.

Blog Tour: Bloodmark by Aurora Whittet

Book Title: Bloodmark
Author: Aurora Whittet
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult, Paranormal, Shapeshifters, Werewolves, Romance, Supernatural, Mythology
Series: Bloodmark Saga #1
Publisher: Wise Ink Creative Publishing
Publish Date: November 1, 2013 (333 Pages, hardcover - Ebook)
Interview with author: Interview
Disclaimer: I received this book free from the publisher. +Laura Fabiani iRead Book Tours is who I am reviewing this book for an honest review
Description: Sixteen-year-old werewolf princess Ashling Boru is different from other wolves—she was able to shift to wolf form at birth. Rather than bringing pride to her family, it brings fear, and as a result, she is forced to live in seclusion in Ireland’s countryside. Ashling’s reputation is further blackened when she refuses her betrothed and defies the ancient laws. When her pack’s oldest rivals begin hunting her, she finds herself in the small town of York Harbor, Maine—far from everything she’s ever known.

In Maine, she crosses paths with the dark and rebellious Grey Donavan, and something ignites within her soul. There’s just one problem: Grey is human. Their instant connection turns into a passionate romance, and Ashling begins to believe she can create her own life outside of wolf laws. When she begins to uncover long-buried pack secrets—secrets that threaten to destroy all she holds dear—Ashling’s courage and tenacity are tested. Will she choose her deep and enduring love for Grey, or will she follow Old Mother’s path to her destiny?

Aurora Whittet is a new author to me. She did a wonderful job describing this lifeform that Ashing Boru is. We meet Ashing Boru, and she is to go to meet her father. Her father tries to marry her off. This gets a little more complicated.

Ashing needs protecting and she does not know why or even understand. But has she goes about her life and taken away from her family. She starts to grow and once her brothers Mund and Quinn and family show up. She wonders why. They have come to protect Ashing.

There are some really surprise and twist that come about. We meet Grey. We do not know if he is or what he becomes. He seems to love Ashing Boru. Ashing Boru seems to love Grey. Who is he, and what will happen and will Grey protect Ashing? What has happened to Grey’s mother, and who is Grey’s father.
The story gets even more interesting has you turn the page. Aurora has made it so suspenseful that it hard to put down. It pulls at you. Who could be after Ashing Boru?

Review: If He Had Not Come

Book Title: If He Had Not Come
Author: David Nicholson
Genres: Short Story, Christmas, Holiday, Christian Fiction, Jesus, Children
Publisher: WestBow Press
Publish Date: 2014-05-16 (40 Pages, e-book)
Disclaimer: I received this book free for an honest review from +BookLookBlogger
Description: If He Had Not Come, a Christmas story by Nan F. Weeks set in the ‘30s, asks the profound question: What if Jesus Christ had never come to Earth? David Nicholson provides a refreshing update to this timeless classic, originally included in Cynthia Pearl Maus’ anthology entitled, Christ in the Fine Arts. Through an eye-opening, somewhat bewildering dream, a young boy discovers some of the enormous changes the world would face if Jesus had never come to Earth.

If He had not come is the really good short story. It has a really meaning for Christmas. What would our world be like “If He Had Not Come”? This show you though a boy named Bobby as he experienced this.
What if Jesus was not born? Would we have the world we have now? We can draw anything from the words “If I hadn't come”. Would we still be celebrating Christmas or the birth of Jesus?
If I hadn't come and spoken to them, they wouldn't have any sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin.

This book is good for children and their parents. It good for bedtime. I would even say it even good for the holiday season and around Jesus birth. If you like a good mean full book this one is good for that.

David Nicholson, a retired teacher, discovered Nan Weeks’ story when his own children were young. He has taken on the rewarding mission of resurrecting and reintroducing it to a new generation of families, now with classic-style illustrations, suggested topics for discussion, and further information for “going deeper” into matters of the Christian faith. David and his wife, Barbara, currently reside in St. Paul, Minnesota. They have two married daughters and two grandchildren.

Review: Roma Underground by Gabriel Valjan (Blog Tour)

Book Title:  Roma Underground
Author: Gabriel Valjan
Genres: Mystery, Thiller, Crime / Detective, Italy, Rome
Series: Roma #1
Publisher: Winter Goose Publishing
Publish Date: February 13, 2012 (340 Pages, E-book)
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book  free to review with the book that is on a book tour with +Laura Fabiani which is Book Five of this series. My options and honesty review is my own.
Description: Savvy forensic accountant Alabaster Black is hiding in Rome from her former employer, covert U.S. organization “Rendition.” While there under an assumed name she meets Dante, an investigator, erstwhile explorer and member of the Roma Underground, a band of amateur archaeologists who map the city beneath Rome. With Italian artifacts disappearing at an alarming rate, Alabaster and Dante search for answers and create a trap for the thieves. Through a mysterious online contact Alabaster learns she is being followed, and with her safety at risk she is forced to rethink her chosen alliances and discover hidden truths about herself.

Roma Underground is done well. The author start out with a woman we meet as Bianca N. We do learn a little about her past. Her name is mentioned, as Alabaster Black. You may think well, is that her real name or not? We also meet up with Dante, Alessandro, Farrugia and Gennaro. We also run into a few more people along the way.

What out a bit of a boring start with this story. It does get much better. Somehow this group gets involved with a smuggling artifact. Why is Bianca recruited by “Rendition”? Who are they, and what do they want?

Though you do not know how this group gets brought in to start a hoax? You will just be wandering in the world is going on and what it roughly about. Someone is stealing artifacts or art artifacts that have been going missing. The hoax is started by an idea that is shared by Dante.

You do go about learning about Roma Underground and what happens there along the history of Rome. I can not wait to find out what to happen next in the next book named “Wasp Nest.” This book is worth the reading and it offers so much more.

“As always, Lauren Carr brings an action-packed story that is almost impossible to put down. Her mystery plots have so many twists and turns that I didn’t know if I was coming or going. And the action just didn’t stop from the very beginning till the very end.” - Melina Mason, Melina’s Book Reviews

Eleven Years Ago—Dixmont State Hospital, Outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“Hard to believe this was once a state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital,” the young Pennsylvania state trooper said to his partner, an older officer who seemed unimpressed with the long history of the century-old hospital that rested on top of a hill overlooking a major freeway and railroad tracks.
Heavily damaged by fire and decades of neglect, the complex’s main building had once been a historic landmark, a toast to what had been considered cutting-edge psychiat- ric treatment back in the 1800s. More than a century later, the many buildings that made up the facility lay in ruins, decaying, and the grounds were overgrown and covered in trash left by kids, psychics, and  filmmakers.
“Only goes to show you how quickly the state of the art can become out of date,” the older officer grumbled. “Do you have any idea how many crazies died here? How many are buried in that cemetery?”

“Which is why it’s one of the most haunted places in the world.” The young officer uttered a sinister laugh.
“Shut up.”
An unmarked police car rounded  the  curve  in  the  road that weaved up the long hill from the highway down below. Recognizing the woman driving the cruiser, the older trooper muttered something under his  breath.
“What is it?” his partner asked. “Gates.”
“Huh?”
