Description: After her father's death, Caroline Taylor has grown confident running the Windmill Point Lighthouse. But in 1865 Michigan, women aren't supposed to have such roles, so it's only a matter of time before the lighthouse inspector appoints a new keeper---even though Caroline has nowhere else to go and no other job available to her.

Ryan Chambers is a Civil War veteran still haunted by the horrors of battle. He's secured the position of lighthouse keeper mostly for the isolation---the chance to hide from his past is appealing. He's not expecting the current keeper to be a feisty and beautiful woman who's angry with him for taking her job and for his inability to properly run the light. When his failings endanger others, he and Caroline realize he's in no shape to run the lighthouse, but he's unwilling to let anyone close enough to help. Caroline feels drawn to this wounded soul, but with both of them relying on that single position, can they look past their loss to a future filled with hope...and possibly love?

We meet Caroline Taylor and her family. What a story this. We see Ryan Chamber who has gotten the cross from his sister, Emma in the first book called "Love Unexpected".

We learn about how Caroline Taylor deals with her loss of her father. We see how she deals with raising her siblings. Caroline finds out from the lighthouse inspector that he hired a man for the job of the lighthouse keeper.

Then we meet up with Ryan Chambers at the Roadside Inn. He asks for directions to the Windmill Point Lighthouse. The story get better has you turn the page. Things start getting worse for them. What is going on in this community and at the Windmill Point Light?

There seems to be action at every turn. Mr. Simmons and Mr. Finich seems to want Caroline out of the lighthouse but why. We meet Arnie Simmons and seem eager to want Caroline Taylor. Will Arnie stop at nothing to get Caroline Taylor? Surprises await them all. Can Ryan and Caroline learn to trust in faith, hope and forgiveness?

The author writes another fastening story. I can not wait to continue on with the next book. Want to learn about Emma and her brother Ryan prior to Ryan getting the cross or how he had the cross? You can read my review to "Love Unexpected" to find the answer.

Will Rand fall victim to the conspiracy and go through with his wedding? Or will he declare his love for Sarah and make good on the promises that brought her into the rugged western territories?

Things get even more strange as the story continues. Ben and Jessica both want Sarah away from Rand for their own reason. Ben has a little bit of a different plan for his himself. There seems to be something going on and Sarah hear a part of the plan that Ben is talking with Jessica. She could not figure out what they are talking about.

Ben wants to get back at Sarah for what she did to save a friend. He got a plan to get rid of Rand for good. Jessica finds Sarah and invites her and Amelia with her and her mother to a picnic. Sarah feels like something is up with Jessica but needs to get out of camp for a bit.

There a stage while Rand is out for a few days to get wood for the fort. What do the Indians want with him? Rands see an Indian that looks like his younger brother and he does not shoot. What do they want with Sarah when they got her. Will they save Sarah and Rand or what will they do with them?

Review: The Journal Of Joshua Loper, A Black Cowboy, The Chisholm Trail, 1871

Title of Book: The Journal Of Joshua Loper, A Black Cowboy, The Chisholm Trail, 1871
Author: Walter Dean Myers
Series: My Name is America
Genres: Children, Young Adult, Historical Fiction, Diary,
Publisher: Scholastic
Pub Date: April 1, 1999 (160 Pages, Hardcover)
Book Source: Hardcover
Contact Author: Goodread Profile

Synopsis:
Two-time Newbery Honor-winning author Walter Dean Myers writes about an African-American boy's struggles with his first cattle drive and the racial prejudices of the day.
My Thoughts:
This is about a African American boy and his time on his first cattle drive. He was free and there were very though jobs for them. It about Joshua being a cowboy and the prejudiced of being black.

It a good read. Though this is mostly about the time in American History. It tells you more about being Black cowboy and on the trail of "The Chisholm Trail in 1871."

If you enjoy history this is good. This is told though the boys prospective as in Dear American is told though a girl prospective. It good for children to learn about our history at that time. Learn about Cattle drives as well as what it was like being African American in the 1871.
