Bird of Passage is a story about a boy and girl finding their own way. The boys name is Leonardo. It also about a girl named Azara. Leonardo goes to America to find work. He learns a lot about himself.

He runs into trouble with a job and making friends. While there he meets up with a guy named Rizzo. Though he runs into a boy named Carlos too. He tries to help out family members of the girl he loves.

What will happen to Leonardo and his family back in Italy? He finds out who his real father is, once he goes back to Italy to be with his mother. There are many twists and turns in this book though out.

There another boy that commits murder and tries to escape by going to America. What will happen to Carlos? There a gang that helps out and is on the estate of Mazzi.

Describe your book in 20 words or less.

Leonardo and Carlo, vie for Azzura. All three pursue their dreams. There are complications. Choices made drive their destiny

Where or how did you come up with the idea for your story?

My father and all my grandparents were immigrants from Naples. I was curious about the environment they found when they arrived in the States and took a course at UT Austin on the Progressive Era. My term paper was on Italian immigration. During the semester, I wrote a short story, "The Sour Smell of Pain." Later, I decided that my writing had progressed to the point where I could tackle a novel and the short story, although quite different than the novel plot, became an inspiration for the book.

How important are names to you in your book(s)? Do you choose the names based on liking the way it sounds or the meaning? Do you use any resources in assisting you to choose the names?

My mother's family name was Robustelli, shortened to Robusto as they passed through Ellis Island. I have two Italian friends, Leonardo and Anna. (Although the book is not about my family, there are many references insiders would understand.) Some of my names are descriptive of character, Basso, Innocenti, and Drago, but otherwise I tried match surnames to an Italian region. I often search for names online and surf through lists until I find one that appeals to me.

Which of your characters (in this book) is your favorite and Why?

Azzura. She's independent minded and smart. I would've tried to win her heart if I were in the book.

Was there a certain scene in this book that was harder for you to write than others?

Not particularly. But lots of research went into learning about steerage travel.

If you could cast your characters in the Hollywood adaptation of your book, who would play your characters?

Leonardo DiCaprio is probably too old for Leonardo. The same for Violante Placido as Azzura. I'm sure Martin Scorsese or Francis Ford Coppola would get the casting right.

What was your favorite part to write and why? (Alternate Q: What is your least favorite part of the publishing / writing process?)

My favorite part of the publishing/writing process is writing as a creative outlet. Getting published in many ways is more difficult that penning a novel. There's huge competition, art is subjective, and whatever you create must be distinguished in the minds of agents and publishers.

Just as your book(s) inspire authors, what authors have inspired you to write? (Alternate Q: If you didn't like writing books, what would you do for a living?

I walked into a creative writing class with Ben Fountain when he was at UT Austin, and left wanting to be a writer. I spent years writing short stories and compiled a landfill worth of rejections. About three years ago, I began to receive acceptances and seventy of my stories have appeared in small print or online magazines.

What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?

Embrace feedback and rejection as both an incentive and as a learning tool to improve. I know a number of people who so fear rejection that they won't submit their work for publication. You'll only succeed if you punch through the negativity.

Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?

I read my reviews and always thank the reviewer. With all the choices readers have, it's an honor that they've selected my work. Of course, I prefer if they like it. As I said above, this is art, and the reader is the judge of what they like.

What are you working on now? What is your next project?

I'm working on a modern thriller. An Italian-American from New York runs afoul of the Russian mob. I hope you won't be able to put it down.

Bonus Question: Characters often find themselves in situations they aren't sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?

I made the best decision I could, and lived with the consequence.

This is a story about a British soldier and an Indian woman. We learn a bit of history while during the book. I enjoyed how life was after Fort William went down.

It about a forgiving of what happen to an Indian woman who has twins and one is taken. One twin is white while the other is brown. So a soldier takes the white baby. He seems to not want to upset his wife and tell her baby had died.

Anna makes a friendship with Two hawks when her brother goes to college in Wales. What will happen to Anna when she finds out the truth about her. What will happen when her brother William finds out. What will happen when William finds out.

Laura Carr has really done it again to me. The story had me going from the start of who guessed the murderer. Her written catches you and grabs your attention and keeping entertained and wondering. Murphy some how get on to this murder case by being sent down from NCIS.

How Murphy's stepmother Cameron and his wife Jessica get in the middle of it is beyond it. They start to go from one crime scene to another. Murphy is called in and I wonder what's going to happen to them it is all up in the air. Surprises and twists waiting at every turn of the pages.

You get pulled in and can not be pulled back out. We meet a young girl that is left behind that is connected to five murders in Washington, D.C. Where a murder that happens thirteen years before and what happen to that person come to light. Who is behind it all? Military seems to be hiding something that they seem not to want to come out. You will never be able to figure it out until it all revealed at the end.

This is a lovely book. It shows how her parents dealt with their little girls death. It shows the process of how each person who loved Asia began healing.

It references Asia saying's though out the book. It surely amazing that what Asia said to her parents or mother came true as Asia had known she be leaving this world.

I really enjoyed it. It sure has the history of that day. It tells the story of September 11, 2001. It is told in a way a parent loses someone special. The children are more loss to any parents and this book is meant to help them deal with it.
